Northwest Wisconsin Fishing Report for Mid-May 2022

May 18, 2022

We’ve certainly had our share of cold this year, resulting in the ice just recently leaving most of our Northwest Wisconsin area lakes. As you can imagine, water temperatures are still pretty cold making the fishing a bit tough.

The further south you go, the warmer the lakes are and you’ll find better the fishing in those areas. Look for shallower lakes with darker water and fish the windy shorelines for walleyes.

Afternoons are likely your best bet as the heat of the day gives the chance for the water to warm up a bit.

Fish light jigs and minnows or my personal favorite – hair jigs tipped with a minnow or soft plastic!
Change up the speed of your retrieve and cadence to see what they want!

Good luck out there!
